The entire has been reduced at left and bottom and is open on two sides. It seems to all postal markings are present. There are two strikes (very uncommon) of the "REGISTERED/JUL 7, 1893/World's Fair Station,CHICAGO, ILL. handstamp (Bomar C93-04). There is a blue Chicago received h/s on the back. The cover went through New York where an exchange registry label was applied. Once in Germany the cover was forwarded.

First duplex where a stamp would normally be, the second on the reverse ties a Pan-American label that seals the flap. Blue crayon around the seal indicates it was not accepted as postage. At left is a red Pan-American embossed logo with the "return in five days" crossed out (no return address on the cover). At lower left is a "SPOT 11" seapost cancel (Hosking TA/X18). Blue crayon "80" denotes 80pf (20c) due from the addressee. 80pf equivalent to 10c double weight letter & 10c penalty. The cover shows an indent at the top that indicates enclosures adding weight. At lower left on the reverse is a 28 Sept. JNGOLSTADT receiving cds.
