London "S.W./22" duplex ties Scott #20 on mourning cover to Canada. 1 pence stamp pays the prepaid late fee, ms "3" cents debit to Canada for British inland postage & hand-stamped "25" due from the addressee for 6 pence letter rate + 6 pence penalty for being underpaid (25c). Black Nov 4 Quebc receiving cds on reverse. Per the Allan Line steamer Jura departing Liverpool 24 Oct., Londonderry 25 Oct., arriving Quebec 4 Nov. Content are interesting letters on mourning paper about a Royal dedication dispute which mention the death of a father.

Great Britain. Dated 1876/04/19. Manchester "498" duplex ties Scott #66 (plt 3) on double weight cover to Manchester, New Hampshire. Ms "2" (double rate) at upper left, black "T" postage due handstamp & 2 May New York Due 15cts cds. Reverse with 19 Apr. West Corton cds. During the period 1 Jul. 1875 through 31 Mar. 1879 postage due was figured at double the rate that should have been paid minus what was actually paid. In this case 20c (with penalty) was due minus 5c paid for a net of 15c due.

Manuscript "To be forwarded" at upple left. Black "T" & "30" handstamps. Cover short paid by 1 1/2 pence (30 reis in Portugal). No penalty involved as franking was correct for the local rate. Great Britain. Dated 1879/11/09. Leominster duplex ties faulty Scott 33 (plate 205) on short paid cover to New York. 1 1/2d or 15 centimes (3c) underpaid with blue crayon "15" at right. Partial New York receiving cds, "U.S. CHARGE TO COLLECT," "6 Cents" & large "T" hand stamps on face. The rate of 3c postage due & 3c penalty was paid by a pair of Scott J3 with "string of pearls" precancel. On reverse is 10 Nov. Liverpool transit & 21 Nov. New York F.D. cds.
