Rated 1/3 British sea postage + 27c due (25c over 400 miles + 2c ship captain's fee). Postage from Queenston to Oxford was 11d (9d for 101-200 miles + 2d ferriage fee. The Canadian Postmaster collected the total 2/3 1/2d for the U.S. and Canada.

The Cunard steamer Europa sailed from Liverpool on August 20, arriving in Halifax on August 31st. The letter was put on board as a loose letter. The Europa arrived in Boston on Sept. 2nd. The letter was then carried from Boston to Baltimore overland in a closed bag.
