Content are interesting letters on mourning paper about a Royal dedication dispute which mention the death of a father.

Ms "2" (double rate) at upper left, black "T" postage due handstamp & 2 May New York Due 15cts cds. Reverse with 19 Apr. West Corton cds. During the period 1 Jul. 1875 through 31 Mar. 1879 postage due was figured at double the rate that should have been paid minus what was actually paid. In this case 20c (with penalty) was due minus 5c paid for a net of 15c due.

Great Britain. Dated 1877/11/17. Black barred numeral "144" cancel ties 2p Queen (#30 plate 15) on a newspaper "The Illustrated London News" of Sept 17th, 1877. the 2p pays the correct 1 pence per two ounces for between 4 & six ounces. The actual weight is about five ounces. Scans shows only the stamp, the newspaper is full size and intact. Newspaper with horizontal fold, will be shipped open and flat.
